The Albert Memorial is a Victorian monument in Kensington Gardens, London, erected in memory of Prince Albert, consort of Queen Victoria. It was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott in a Gothic revival style and was unveiled in 1872.
The memorial comprises a gilt figure of Prince Albert seated beneath a richly decorated canopy, with surrounding allegorical sculptures representing the continents, arts and industries. It stands directly north of the Royal Albert Hall and forms a focal point at the northern end of the Royal Albert Hall/Exhibition Road axis.
The memorial was commissioned after Prince Albert’s death in 1861 and completed in the early 1870s; it has been the subject of conservation and restoration work in the 20th and 21st centuries.
