How to Get to Albenga#
Albenga is easiest reached by regional train along the Ligurian coast or via nearby airports in Genoa or Nice. The town’s railway station sits on the Genoa-Ventimiglia line; buses fill gaps to smaller villages and beaches.
Genoa Cristoforo Colombo (GOA): Genoa is the closest major airport to Albenga; from GOA take the Volabus or local Aerobus into Genoa city (about €6, 25-30 minutes) and then a Trenitalia regional train from Genova Piazza Principe or Genova Brignole to Albenga (about 1-1.5 hours, €4-€8).
Nice Côte d’Azur (NCE): Nice is another practical option, especially for low-cost carriers. From Nice airport you can take the tram or bus to Nice-Ville station, then TER/Interregio trains west to Ventimiglia and change for regional trains toward Albenga; total journey c. 2-3 hours, fares typically €10-€25 depending on connections.
Train: Albenga is served by Albenga railway station on the Genoa-Ventimiglia coastal line (Trenitalia regional services). Frequent regional trains connect Albenga with Savona and Genoa (journeys 20-75 minutes, fares commonly €2-€8 depending on distance).
Bus: Local and regional buses connect Albenga with nearby towns and villages; regional services in Liguria are run by local operators (Riviera/TPL) with single fares typically around €1.50-€2.50 for short trips. Coaches from larger cities (e.g., Savona) may be slightly more and useful for places not on the rail line.
How to Get Around Albenga#
Albenga is best navigated on regional trains for intercity travel and on foot locally; buses and hire cars fill in the gaps for places off the rail line. For most visitors, a combination of Trenitalia regional services and walking around the compact centre works best.
- Train (Trenitalia) (€2-€8) - Regional trains are the most practical way to reach and move around Albenga and other towns on the Ligurian coast. Trains are frequent on the Genoa-Ventimiglia line, and journey times are short between coastal towns. Buy tickets at station machines or via the Trenitalia app to avoid fines.
- Bus (local/regional) (€1.50-€6) - Local buses serve routes off the rail corridor (beach shuttles, inland villages). Services are run by regional operators; schedules can be sparse outside summer. Keep small change or a contactless card where accepted.
- Taxi (€50-€120) - Taxis are useful for late-night arrivals or luggage but are relatively expensive compared with trains - expect a trip from nearby cities or airports to cost from €50-€120 depending on distance. Agree a fare or ensure the meter is used.
- Car hire (€35-€80/day) - Hiring a car gives flexibility to explore the Ligurian coast and the hinterland; narrow coastal roads and summer traffic around beaches can slow you down. Parking in the medieval centre is limited; look for outside lots.
- Bicycle (€10-€25/day) - Albenga is compact enough for cycling; bike hire is common in summer and handy for beachfront promenades. Use caution on coastal roads where car traffic and tourist crowds increase in high season.
- Walking - The historic centre and seafront are very walkable - most attractions, cafes and beaches are within a short stroll.
Where to Stay in Albenga#
Centro Storico / Marina - €40-70/night
Small, historic town with a few inexpensive guesthouses and B&Bs. Budget choices are limited outside summer; expect simple rooms and family-run hospitality.
Old Town / Lungomare - €70-130/night
Comfortable mid-range hotels are clustered near the old town and seafront. Rooms are typically compact but well located for beaches and restaurants.
Seafront (Lido) - €130-250/night
Few true luxury hotels inside Albenga; for high-end resorts consider nearby Alassio or Laigueglia. Expect boutique, sea-view properties in the area.

Nightlife in Albenga#
Albenga’s nightlife is low-key. Evenings are mostly about relaxed wine bars, cafés and seaside promenades, with a livelier atmosphere in summer when tourists fill the beachfront.
