Ala-Köl (Ala-Kol) is an alpine mountain lake in the Terskey Alatau range of Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul Region, noted for its high-altitude setting and mountain scenery. The lake is a natural glacially fed basin in a remote alpine cirque.
The lake’s waters and surrounding moraine-landscape attract trekkers and mountaineers; access requires hiking routes across mountain passes and is generally undertaken in summer months when snowpack is lower. There are no large settlements on the lake’s shores.
Ala-Köl has no recorded major built history; it is valued for natural and landscape qualities and as a destination for highland trekking in the Tian Shan mountains.
The lake lies within the Issyk-Kul administrative region, on the southern side of the Issyk-Kul basin in the Kyrgyz Terskey Alatau mountains.
