Ajusco is a volcanic mountain and massif on the southern edge of Mexico City, part of the Sierra de Ajusco-Chichinautzin volcanic belt. Its highest point, Pico del Ajusco, reaches about 3,930 meters and dominates the southern skyline of the metropolitan area.

The area is used for outdoor recreation including hiking, mountain biking, and nature outings, with marked trails and picnic areas on the slopes. Vegetation ranges from pine forests at higher elevations to mixed woodlands and grasslands lower down.

Geologically the massif is volcanic in origin and forms part of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt that crosses central Mexico. The mountain provides a natural green buffer for the southern boundary of Mexico City and is managed in places as a protected recreational area.

Ajusco sits on the southern fringe of Mexico City and is accessible from the city; it forms part of the metropolitan region’s highland terrain and overlooks the central basin to the north.
