Ainola is the former home of Finnish composer Jean Sibelius and his wife Aino, located near Järvenpää in southern Finland. The house was built for the Sibelius family in the early 1900s and later converted into a museum preserving the composer’s living and working environment.
The property contains the family residence and surrounding garden and is presented with original furnishings, personal items and rooms preserved to reflect the Sibelius family’s life. Guided tours focus on the composer’s life, work and the house’s domestic history.
The house was occupied by the Sibelius family for much of Jean Sibelius’s productive life and became a museum after it was opened to the public to preserve his legacy. The site is managed as a cultural-historical house museum.
Ainola sits in the town of Järvenpää, about 40 kilometres north of Helsinki, set in a suburban-woodland landscape that was historically a quiet retreat for the composer.
