Aino-dake
Mountain High Japanese alpine peak in the Akaishi range
In the Akaishi range, Aino-dake draws hikers up steep trails to alpine ridges; climbers aim for close views of neighbouring Mount Kita and, on clear days, distant Mount Fuji.
Aino-dake (Mount Aino) is a high mountain peak in the Akaishi Mountains, also called the Southern Alps, on Honshu, Japan. The peak is part of the range of 3,000-metre class summits in the region.
Alpine hikers come for the long ridgelines, rocky terrain and panoramic views of neighboring high peaks, typically combining Aino-dake with ascents of nearby summits on multi-day routes. Mountain huts and marked alpine trails serve common approaches in the climbing season.
The mountain is a product of the same tectonic uplift that created the Japanese Alps and has long been part of Japan’s mountaineering routes and mountain-climbing literature. It lies within the area designated as Minami Alps National Park.
Aino-dake is located in Shizuoka Prefecture within the Akaishi (Southern Alps) range of central Honshu, Japan, and is situated close to other high peaks such as Mount Kita.
- Altitude: Elevation exceeds 3,000 metres, so routes involve alpine conditions and can require experience with high-altitude hiking.
- Typical route: Often climbed as part of a ridge traverse linking the peak with nearby Mount Kita in the Southern Alps.
Best Time to Visit Aino-dake #
