How to Get to Aileu#
Aileu sits inland from Dili and is most easily reached by road from the capital. Minibuses and taxis are the normal options; journeys are short to moderate but roads can be winding.
Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport, Dili (DIL): Dili is the main entry point for Aileu and the rest of Timor-Leste. From Dili you continue by road-there are no regular scheduled flights to Aileu.
Baucau Airport (BCO): Baucau’s airfield is the only other notable airstrip on the island but does not provide regular connections to Aileu; overland travel from either airport is normally used.
Train: Timor-Leste has no passenger rail services.
Bus / Minibus (Bemos): Aileu is reached from Dili by minibus or shared taxi; travel time depends on traffic and road conditions but is typically around 1-1.5 hours from Dili. Services depart from Dili’s transport areas; expect simple vehicles and informal schedules.
