Aigle Castle

Aigle Castle (Château d’Aigle) is a medieval castle located in the town of Aigle in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland, originally established in the Middle Ages. The building is one of the town’s principal historic monuments and houses cultural exhibits.

The castle’s towers and keep are visible from the town and offer a compact example of regional medieval military architecture. Inside, visitors can access the Wine and Vine Museum which presents the local viticultural heritage and related displays.

Founded in the medieval period, the castle served defensive and administrative roles for the local feudal authorities and has been preserved and repurposed for civic and museum use in later centuries. Its masonry and towered profile reflect successive historic phases.

Located in the centre of Aigle in the Rhône valley of canton Vaud, the castle sits amid vineyards and near regional rail links that connect the town to the Lake Geneva corridor.
