How to Get to Adzopé#
Adzopé is best reached by road from Abidjan (ABJ). Regional coaches, gbakas and shared taxis departing from Abidjan’s eastern bus parks are the common, affordable options.
Félix-Houphouët-Boigny International Airport (ABJ): Abidjan (ABJ) is Ivory Coast’s main international airport and the usual arrival point for travel to Adzopé. Adzopé lies east of Abidjan; road transfers from ABJ or central Abidjan to Adzopé typically take 1.5-2.5 hours depending on traffic.
No scheduled air service to Adzopé: Adzopé does not have regular commercial flights; travelers continue by road from Abidjan.
Train: Ivory Coast’s passenger rail network is limited and not a practical option for travel to Adzopé; rail services do not provide frequent passenger connections from Abidjan to Adzopé.
Bus / Gbaka / Shared taxi: Shared minibuses (gbakas) and intercity bush taxis run from Abidjan to Adzopé from the eastern bus parks. Coaches take about 1.5-2.5 hours depending on traffic; fares are paid in XOF and are usually modest for this distance (a few thousand XOF).

Road travel from Abidjan (coaches, gbakas or shared taxis) is the usual way to reach Adzopé. For local movement, gbakas and taxis are frequent and inexpensive.
- Intercity coach (1,500-4,000 XOF) - Coaches and private bus companies run scheduled services between Abidjan and Adzopé. They are typically the most comfortable overland option; check departure times at Abidjan’s main bus terminals.
- Gbaka / Shared minibus (500-2,000 XOF) - Gbakas are frequent and cheap, leaving when full and serving many local stops. They offer flexible travel but can be crowded and slower due to many stops.
- Shared taxi / bush taxi (2,000-5,000 XOF) - Shared taxis operate between Abidjan and Adzopé and can be quicker than gbakas. They are a popular choice for travellers on a budget - agree on drop-off points and fares in advance.
- Private car / hire (Varies) - Hiring a car and driver gives flexibility for visits to surrounding villages and ease of luggage handling. Road quality varies; use reputable operators and plan for tolls or fuel stops.
- Walking - Adzopé’s main market area and downtown streets are walkable for short errands. Walking is best during daylight - avoid poorly lit or isolated areas at night.
