Adina Mosque

The Adina Mosque is a large ruined mosque complex at Pandua in Malda district, West Bengal, built during the Bengal Sultanate in the late 14th century. It served as a principal congregational mosque for the medieval capital at Pandua.

Visitors encounter expansive ruined masonry including a hypostyle prayer hall, a wide courtyard and fragments of monumental gateways and towers. The scale of the surviving plan and the size of the courtyard reflect its former role as a major congregational mosque.

The mosque was constructed under the patronage of the Bengal Sultanate and functioned as the main mosque for the regional capital at Pandua during the 14th and 15th centuries. Over subsequent centuries the complex fell into ruin as political centres shifted and damage from environmental and human causes accumulated.

The site lies in Pandua, Malda district in northern West Bengal, India, within the historic region associated with the medieval Bengal capitals. It is visited from nearby towns in Malda district and by those exploring Bengal’s medieval Islamic architecture.
