Adelaide Island (Russia)

Adelaide Island is a small, uninhabited island in the high Arctic, belonging to the Franz Josef Land archipelago in Arkhangelsk Oblast, Russia. Its coordinates place it well above the Arctic Circle at about 81.63°N.

There are no visitor facilities on the island; it is primarily of interest to polar researchers and expedition cruise operators for wildlife observation and Arctic landscapes. Typical wildlife in the region includes seabirds and ice-associated megafauna encountered from ships or shore landings when conditions permit.

The island forms part of the Franz Josef Land group, an archipelago explored during late 19th and early 20th century Arctic expeditions and later incorporated into Russian Arctic territory. It has remained without permanent habitation and is administered as part of Arkhangelsk Oblast.
