ACROS Fukuoka

ACROS Fukuoka is the Fukuoka Prefectural International Hall in central Fukuoka, Japan, notable for its large terraced roof garden and mixed civic use. It was designed by architect Emilio Ambasz and completed in 1995.

The building’s most visible feature is a stepped, planted roof that ascends the structure in terraces, providing public green space and views across the city; the complex also contains performance and civic halls and office spaces. The roof garden occupies multiple levels and is accessible to visitors in designated areas.

Commissioned as a prefectural facility, the project combined cultural, administrative and public-open-space functions to create a civic landmark. Its planted terraces were intended to reintegrate green space into a dense urban block.

ACROS sits in central Fukuoka near the Tenjin business and shopping district, making the roof garden and event spaces readily reachable by public transport from the city center.
