Abuko Nature Reserve is a compact protected area in western The Gambia near the village of Abuko, set amid woodland, mangrove and wetland habitats. It is one of the country’s best-known sites for birdwatching and seeing small mammals.
Trails through the reserve allow visitors to view forest birds, monkeys and other wildlife and there is a small visitor centre with information and displays. The reserve’s habitat diversity is notable given its proximity to coastal settlements.
The reserve was created in the late 1960s to conserve a remnant tract of native forest and wetland and has been managed for wildlife and public access since that time.
Abuko lies in western Gambia within easy driving distance of coastal urban areas and is commonly visited as a day trip from Banjul and nearby seaside resorts.

How to Get to Abuko Nature Reserve #
Abuko is near the coastal area between Banjul and Serekunda. From Banjul, take a taxi or shared transport toward Lamin or Serekunda and ask for Abuko Nature Reserve. The reserve is a short drive from the main coastal road.
