Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park

Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historical Park preserves the rural site near Hodgenville, Kentucky where Abraham Lincoln was born in 1809. The site is interpreted as the place of Lincoln’s birth and early childhood home.

The park’s central feature is a marble memorial building that contains a symbolic one-room log cabin associated with Lincoln’s birth and early life. A visitor center provides exhibits about Lincoln’s family and frontier life, and short trails lead to the spring and cleared birthplace area.

Abraham Lincoln was born to Thomas and Nancy Hanks Lincoln in a one-room log cabin on the site. The original frontier cabin did not survive; the memorial building and symbolic cabin were placed at the site to preserve and interpret Lincoln’s birthplace.

The site sits near Hodgenville in LaRue County, central Kentucky, surrounded by agricultural land and rural roads. The park occupies the historic clearing around the spring traditionally identified as the family’s homestead.
