Abbaye Saint-Honorat de Lérins

The Abbaye Saint-Honorat de Lérins is a monastic community and historic abbey on Île Saint-Honorat, one of the Lérins Islands off the coast of Cannes in southern France. The foundation dates to the early 5th century, when Saint Honoratus established a monastic settlement on the island.

The island contains a fortified monastic complex with a medieval abbey church, cloistered buildings and a defensive tower, plus paths linking small chapels and viewpoints. Day visitors can tour much of the site, see monastic buildings and buy products made by the monks.

Founded around 410 by Saint Honoratus, the abbey became an important early medieval monastic center and underwent fortifications and rebuilding in later centuries. The island has hosted an unbroken monastic presence in various orders and retains religious use today.

Located off the Cannes coastline in the Bay of Cannes, Île Saint-Honorat is reached by short ferry from Cannes port and lies within sight of the French Riviera shoreline.
