28 Liberty Street is a modernist office complex in Lower Manhattan, New York City, formerly known as One Chase Manhattan Plaza. The building and its surrounding plaza form a notable mid-20th-century corporate development in the Financial District.
The site includes an expansive public plaza and lobby artworks that were part of the original design intent to combine office space with civic open space. It served historically as the headquarters for a major banking institution and has been redeveloped and rebranded in recent years.
The tower was constructed in the mid-20th century as part of Lower Manhattan’s postwar office expansion and has since seen changes in ownership and use consistent with shifts in the city’s financial district. The plaza continues to be a public space used for events and as a pedestrian route.
