Taunggok Travel Guide

Situated just to the north of Thandwe, the sleepy little town of Taunggok doesn't receive much attention from tourists as most find Myanmar's cities far more interesting.

Worth It?
Only if you really want to take the boat along the river from Sittwe.
What to Do
talking to the local people, visiting the pagoda, exploring the countryside.
Best Time to Go
March to mid-May just after the heavy rainy season.
How Long?
Just until the boat or bus arrives to take you to your next destination.

There aren't really any attractions in Taunggok and the only reason people visit the town is that it is situated near a port, with regular boats sailing to the town of Sittwe. It is usually necessary to spend the night in Taunggok before continuing on the journey to Thandwe.

Taunggok is easy to explore on foot. The people who live there are friendly and often invite travelers to join them for a drink and some food. The surrounding countryside is pretty, which makes the wait much more bearable.
