For those on a tight budget, staying in Thandwe and catching the bus to the beach can save a lot of money. The town's colorful market is a good place to pick up provisions and get a tasty meal.

A good way to see the area is by hiring a bike, and as you peddle along the narrow sandy lanes you will discover a number of interesting villages such as Kinmaw village with its clay pottery works. Nearby is a tranquil lake, which is a good place for fishing or simply sitting and watching the birds messing about in the water.

Travel to Thandwe - Getting There

Tourists can only usually use the main airport at Yangon, although there are regular flights from Yangon to Thandwe Airport (3 hours) which are occasionally open to tourists. There are also buses from Yangon to Thandwe (20 hours). The little town of Taunggok is just a 2-hour bus journey.
