Senggigi City

Senggigi sits on the gentle western shore of West Lombok, a stretch of coast backed by a string of low hills that run inland toward Mataram about 20 km to the southeast. The landscape here is a simple mix of sandy beaches, rocky points and those green hills; the coastline feels like a practical gateway to the rest of the island rather than a single spectacular beach destination.

Senggigi Beach is the most active strip in the area - not especially dramatic as a shoreline but convenient and with the best tourist facilities in this part of Lombok. Accommodation ranges from modest guesthouses to larger properties such as the Senggigi Beach Resort. Just north is the quieter, more upmarket Mangsit Beach and to the south the rocky promontory at Batu Bolong. The local settlement, Senggigi town, sits back from the sand and concentrates the region’s shops, services and the liveliest evening scene.

Water-based activities around Senggigi include good snorkeling and diving off nearby reefs, along with a little surf on suitable swells; there is also rewarding hiking in the hills behind the shore. The location makes the area a handy base for day trips - the striking Gili Islands lie offshore and the central peak of Mount Rinjani dominates the island’s interior.

Getting here is straightforward: taxis and bemos link Selaparang Airport in west Mataram with Senggigi Beach in roughly 20 minutes. The airport receives short flights from Ngurah Rai International Airport on Bali (about 20 minutes), and a slower option is the ferry from Padang Bai in Bali to Senggigi, which takes around five to six hours.
