Kaiyuan Travel Guide

The small and slightly sleepy village of Kaiyuan is situated in Yunnan Province in southwest China. Kaiyuan is currently working hard to attract tourists to the town.

The main attraction here is the Kaiyuan Temple, which features twin pagodas known as the Zhenguo Pagoda to the east and the Renshou Pagoda to the west. Actually, it would perhaps be more accurate to say that the Kaiyuan Temple is the only attraction here as there is little else of interest to visitors, unless of course they have a strong interest in the mining industry.

From the perspective of tourism, Kaiyuan is still very much a work in progress, although it does have a lot of potential. There are a few places to stay here and restaurants, but there is no real need to pause here for more than an hour or two at present.

Getting There & Away

Although there are buses to Kaiyuan from all over the area, by far the easiest way to reach the city is by flying into Kunming Airport, which is well connected to a number of international destinations. There are direct buses to Kaiyuan from Kunming (20 minutes).
