- Trivia
- At the start of the ghost festival the village holy men perform a sacrificial ritual on the banks of the Muan River to awaken Phra Ub-pa-kud, a highly revered monk who spends his time meditating beneath the flowing river waters.
More than simply stunning scenery, fresh air and nature, Dan Sai is also home to Thailand's most respected winery, the intoxicating Chateau de Loei Winery. This local winery contains a great restaurant where you can dine in style while sampling the best of Thailand's wines.
A great time to visit is during the weird and wonderful Phi Ta Khon Festival, which is celebrated in June with large colorful masks and costumes. This extravagant three-day festival is traditional Thailand's answer to Halloween and has to be seen to be believed.
