About Bali Zoo

Bali Zoo occupies a large, leafy site in Singapadu, a village between Ubud and the south coast. Paths wind through tropical gardens past enclosures landscaped to look like natural habitats, with a mix of Indonesian and other Asian species: tigers, orangutans, hornbills, colourful parrots and other birds, along with smaller mammals and reptiles.

It is a pleasant half-day with children, and an easy break from temples and galleries. The zoo has restaurants on site and has also run evening openings.

Exploring Bali Zoo

Allow two to three hours to walk the paths at an easy pace, starting early before the midday heat when the animals are more active. Keepers give talks and feed the animals at set times through the day, which are posted at the entrance and are the best way to learn about the species.

Some packages sell close-up photo sessions or handling experiences with animals. They are optional, and you can see everything worth seeing without them; visitors who care about animal welfare may prefer to skip them.
