Zillertal Arena is a large alpine ski area in the Zillertal valley of Tyrol, Austria, linking several resorts and villages across valley and ridge terrain. It is a major winter sports region in the central Eastern Alps.
A broad network of groomed pistes and lift connections provides downhill skiing and snowboarding across multiple sectors, with runs suitable for mixed ability levels and lift-served access from several base villages. Snowmaking and modern lift infrastructure help maintain continuity of ski access through the winter season.
Beyond groomed slopes the area includes marked winter walking routes and ski touring approaches from valley villages; in summer many lifts operate for hiking and mountain-biking access.
The ski domain was formed by progressively linking local lift systems and pistes from several neighboring villages and resorts to create a larger, integrated ski area; infrastructure and piste expansions occurred in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.
Located in the Zillertal valley of Tyrol, the ski area spans resorts that sit along the valley and on adjacent ridges, with base villages such as Zell am Ziller, Gerlos and Königsleiten providing primary access points.
- Piste length: Approximately 143 kilometers of groomed pistes served by a linked lift network, forming a single accessed ski domain across several resorts.
- Interconnected resorts: Runs and lifts interconnect villages in the central Zillertal valley and adjacent side valleys, allowing day trips across multiple base towns.
What to See #
- Zell am Ziller: Zell am Ziller - the valley town that serves as one of the primary base villages for lift access to the ski area and guest services.
- Gerlos: Gerlos - a village higher in the valley connected into the piste network, with direct lift links into the Zillertal Arena circuit.
- Königsleiten: Königsleiten - an Austrian alpine village positioned on the Salzburger side of the ski area, forming part of the interconnected slope system.
Tips for Visiting Zillertal Arena #

- Buy Zillertal Arena multi-day ski or summer pass online before you arrive and pick up your card at a machine or use the resort app where available to skip ticket-office lines.
- Use the regular shuttle/ski-bus connections between valley villages (Zell, Gerlos, Königsleiten, etc.) rather than trying to drive between lift bases-buses run frequently and save time finding parking at busy stations.
