Žiča

Žiča is a medieval Serbian Orthodox monastery near Kraljevo in central Serbia, founded in the early 13th century and historically significant as the coronation church of medieval Serbian kings.

The site centers on a single-domed stone church with medieval fresco fragments and later monastic buildings; it functions today as an active monastery and pilgrimage destination. The complex includes restored structures and visible fragments of wall painting that attract visitors interested in medieval Serbian art.

Founded around the reign of Stefan Nemanjić and with close association to Archbishop Sava, the monastery became the seat of the Serbian archbishopric and the location for royal coronations in the 13th century. Over subsequent centuries it suffered damage and underwent repairs and reconstructions but retained its ecclesiastical importance.

The monastery stands near the village of Žiča close to the town of Kraljevo in central Serbia, set on rolling ground in the historical Raška region.
