How to Get to Yurimaguas

Yurimaguas is reached by a small regional airport (Moisés Benzaquén Rengifo, YMS) and by river and road links. The airport is a short taxi ride from town; most longer journeys use buses or river boats from the town's port or bus terminal.

By Air

Moisés Benzaquén Rengifo Airport (YMS): The small regional airport sits just outside town; a taxi from the apron to the central market/terminal takes about 5-10 minutes and commonly costs around S/5-10 (Peruvian soles). Local moto-taxis are cheaper for short hops (S/2-5) but luggage-handling will be limited.

By Train & Bus

Train: There is no passenger rail service to Yurimaguas.

Bus: Yurimaguas has a Terminal Terrestre where regional buses and colectivos connect with towns such as Moyobamba and Tarapoto. Expect journey times of several hours depending on destination; fares on regional routes are modest (tens of soles) and vary by operator and comfort level - ask locally for current prices and schedules.

How to Get Around Yurimaguas #

Yurimaguas is best experienced on foot around the compact town centre; many streets are pedestrian-friendly and markets are close together. For longer trips you’ll rely on moto-taxis, local taxis and river boats - launches connect upriver and downriver communities, and small motorized canoes run to nearby villages. Expect fares to be low by Western standards: short moto rides are a few soles, taxis slightly more, and river passages vary widely by distance. Carry cash, ask prices before boarding and allow extra time for boats, which leave when they fill up.
