Yasawa Island is one of the principal islands in Fiji’s Yasawa group, located in the Western Division; the Yasawa Islands comprise roughly 20 volcanic islands stretching northwest of Fiji’s main island of Viti Levu. The group is widely known for white-sand beaches, coral reefs, and small resort islands that serve leisure tourism.

Beaches and snorkeling reefs are prominent attractions, with shallow lagoons and fringing coral accessible directly from many resort beaches. Day cruises and island-hopping itineraries run between Port Denarau (near Nadi) and the Yasawa group, and guests commonly use small boats or scheduled seafaring services to reach the island.

The islands have long been inhabited by iTaukei (indigenous Fijian) communities; tourism development increased in the late 20th century as resorts and visitor facilities were established. Local villages remain active and many resorts operate in partnership with village communities.

The island sits off the northwest coast of Viti Levu, in the Western Division of Fiji, and is reached by sea or by small-air transfers to nearby island airstrips. It lies northwest of the main tourist hubs around Nadi and Denarau, and is accessed by multi-hour boat services or shorter charter transfers.

  • Accommodation and activities: Most accommodation on the island consists of small resorts and guesthouses that cater to snorkeling, diving, and day-cruise visitors.
  • Best time to visit: Best weather is during Fiji's dry season, typically May to October, when sea conditions are calmer for boat transfers and reef activities.
