Yanchep National Park is a protected area on the Swan Coastal Plain in Western Australia, north of Perth. The park preserves coastal woodlands, wetlands and limestone karst, and is known for accessible wildlife and cave features.
Walking trails, picnic areas and lookouts provide visitor access to wetlands inhabited by waterbirds, while guided walks and short drives allow sightings of native mammals. Several show caves and interpretive facilities explain the park’s natural and cultural values.
The area has been managed for conservation and recreation by the state parks agency and includes infrastructure for day visitors, education and Aboriginal cultural interpretation.
The park lies approximately 50 to 60 kilometres north of central Perth on the coastal plain, between suburban Perth and the more remote coastal hinterland.

How to Get to Yanchep National Park #
Yanchep National Park is reached by car via the Mitchell Freeway (State Route 2) northbound from Perth; follow signs for State Route 60 (Marmion Avenue), then Wanneroo Road and Yanchep Road. The park is about a 45-60 minute drive from Perth CBD, depending on traffic. Transperth buses service Yanchep from Joondalup (Route 490/491 to Yanchep), then a short taxi or local bus may be required to reach park facilities.
Tips for Visiting Yanchep National Park #
- Arrive before 9:00 AM to see koalas awake on the boardwalk and to avoid tour-bus groups.
- Use the Haynes Road / Yanchep National Park entrance; the picnic and Loch McNess area are a short walk from the carpark.
- Book any cave or night-spotlighting tours in advance through the park website - they run only on selected days.
Best Time to Visit Yanchep National Park #
Best visited outside the peak summer heat. Mornings are quietest for wildlife viewing, late afternoons good for light on Loch McNess.
