Wrocław Cathedral, the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist, is the principal Roman Catholic church on Ostrów Tumski in central Wrocław, Poland, and serves as the seat of the Archdiocese of Wrocław.
The present building is largely Gothic in style with construction phases from the medieval period; it contains a nave, aisles and prominent west towers and has been a central ecclesiastical building for the city for centuries. Visitors commonly view the interior, chapels and the cathedral exterior from the riverside.
The cathedral suffered heavy damage during World War II and underwent extensive postwar reconstruction and restoration to repair structural damage and restore interior fittings.
It stands on Ostrów Tumski, the historic cathedral island on the Oder River, immediately adjacent to Wrocław’s historic centre and close to other civic landmarks.

How to Get to Wrocław Cathedral #
Wrocław Cathedral (Ostrów Tumski) sits in central Wrocław on the island of Ostrów Tumski. From Wrocław Główny (main railway station) it is an easy walk of around 20-30 minutes (roughly 1.5-2 km) across the city centre; you can also take a short tram or bus ride or a taxi to the cathedral area. The cathedral is reached on foot from the Tumski Bridge/Old Town area once you arrive in downtown Wrocław.

- Visit early on weekdays or at dusk to avoid tour groups; Ostrów Tumski is quiet in the morning and the dusk lamplighter ritual on the island provides especially photogenic light.
- Approach the cathedral across the Tumski (Most Tumski) bridge and enter via the main doors on Ostrów Tumski; there is a separate (ticketed) tower entrance-if the tower is open, climb it for one of the best panoramic views of Wrocław.
- Don't skip the side chapels, crypt and the cathedral museum/treasury where medieval tombs, memorials and fresco fragments are kept-these smaller spaces are easy to miss during a quick visit.
- Avoid visiting during scheduled Masses and major religious holidays; check the cathedral's service times before arriving so you don't encounter restricted access or large congregations.
