Wiñay Wayna is an Inca archaeological complex on the Inca Trail in the Cusco region of Peru, notable for its terraces and cliffside stone constructions. The name means “Forever Young” in Quechua and the site forms one of the major pre-Columbian ruins encountered on the trail to Machu Picchu.
The site comprises stepped agricultural terraces, water channels, and groups of stone buildings arranged along a steep ridge; narrow stairways link the different levels and groups. Hikers on the Inca Trail commonly stop here to view the terraces and the ruins before continuing toward the trail’s final sections.
Wiñay Wayna is an Inca-era site incorporated into the broader Machu Picchu Historic Sanctuary and illustrates Inca agricultural and architectural techniques adapted to steep terrain.
