Wildstrubel
Mountain Alpine massif in Bernese Alps with glaciers and hiking
Wildstrubel massif straddles the Bernese Alps with high ridges, summer hiking routes and ski-touring lines; alpine huts and glacier approaches attract mountaineers from nearby resorts.
Wildstrubel is a massif in the Bernese Alps on the boundary between the cantons of Bern and Valais in Switzerland, with its highest point reaching about 3,244 metres above sea level. The mountain comprises a broad, multi-summited ridge with glacierized sections, and is a recognizable feature of the central Swiss high Alps.
Hiking routes, alpine crossings and ski-touring lines lead to and across the Wildstrubel massif; routes vary in technical difficulty and include glacier travel on some approaches, so standard alpine equipment and experience are required. The area offers panoramic views of surrounding peaks and valleys from the summit ridge.
The massif is part of the high-Alpine landscape of the Bernese Oberland and Upper Valais, and it has long been used by mountaineers and shepherding communities; alpine huts and marked trails provide access from both cantonal sides.
Wildstrubel sits on the Bern-Valais cantonal border in the Swiss Alps, overlooking the Simmental and Rhone valley sectors and accessible from valley towns on either side.
- Alpine conditions: Summit conditions are alpine; snow persists on higher slopes into summer and the area is used for ski touring and glacier travel in seasonally appropriate conditions.
