The terminal handles scheduled regional services and a sizable seasonal charter and leisure traffic volume; boarding often uses walk-boarding (remote stands) rather than airbridges.

The airport is a short drive from Westerland (about 10-20 minutes) and is well connected by road. On-island transport options include taxis, local buses and car hire; there is no direct rail link to the terminal (Sylt has rail connections to the mainland via the Hindenburgdamm but the station is in Westerland town).
