Wank (mountain)

Wank is a mountain in the Bavarian Prealps above the town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, Germany. The summit rises to roughly 1,780 metres and is a local recreational mountain.

A short cable car ride from Garmisch-Partenkirchen gives access to the summit area and alpine pastures, popular for short walks and panoramic views. From the ridge there are clear vistas towards the Wetterstein range and Germany’s highest peak, the Zugspitze, on good-weather days.

The mountain has long been used for local recreation and alpine grazing; in the 20th century tourism infrastructure such as the cable car and summit facilities was developed to serve visitors from Garmisch and the surrounding valley.

Wank sits immediately above Garmisch-Partenkirchen in southern Bavaria, forming part of the lower flanks of the Northern Limestone and Bavarian Prealps.
