Walls of Jerusalem National Park

Walls of Jerusalem National Park is a protected area in central Tasmania, Australia, known for its alpine plateaus, dolerite cliffs and glacially-influenced lakes. It conserves a distinctive highland environment within Tasmania’s central plateau.

Hikers encounter rugged alpine scenery, named rock walls and short, often steep peaks that form the park’s “walls,” along with small highland lakes and button grass plains. The park is visited for multi-day bushwalks and wilderness experiences rather than roadside attractions.

The area was set aside for conservation to protect its alpine vegetation and geological features; it is part of Tasmania’s system of national parks established in the 20th century to preserve highland ecosystems. Recreational walking routes and basic backcountry facilities were developed to manage visitor use.

The park lies on Tasmania’s central plateau within the island’s interior highlands. It is reached by track access from nearby trailheads and is several hours’ drive from Tasmania’s major population centres.
