Wallraf–Richartz Museum

The Wallraf-Richartz Museum is an art museum in Cologne, Germany, founded from the bequest of Ferdinand Franz Wallraf and later expanded with support from Johann Heinrich Richartz. It is principally known for its holdings of medieval to 19th-century European painting.

The displays cover medieval sacred art and altarpieces, Baroque and Dutch Old Masters, and 19th-century painting including Impressionist works. Galleries present paintings, sculpture, and decorative arts across multiple rooms so visitors typically spend one to two hours on a focused visit.

The museum originated from Wallraf’s bequest in the early 19th century and acquired further support from Johann Heinrich Richartz, which led to the institution bearing both names.
