Main image

Wadbilliga National Park is a remote national park in southeastern New South Wales that protects rugged granite ranges, steep river gorges and native forest. It is valued for its wilderness character, native vegetation and upland river systems.

Long walking routes, remote campsites and freshwater streams that attract bushwalkers and birdwatchers. Trails vary from day walks to multi-day routes and traverse granite outcrops, cliffs and sheltered valleys; visitors should be prepared for limited facilities and scrubby terrain. There are opportunities to see native mammals and a range of woodland and high-country plant communities.

The park was created to protect the Wadbilliga wilderness area and its catchments, and management focuses on conserving habitat and providing low-impact recreation. Over time access and services have remained intentionally minimal to retain a wild character.

Located in southeastern New South Wales within the Great Dividing Range, the park lies inland from the coast and is south of major regional centres. The landscape is dominated by granite ridges, steep river valleys and forested slopes.

  • Terrain and difficulty: Expect steep, granite country with deep river valleys and rocky ridgelines; much of the park is rugged and remote.
  • Best visiting times: Best times to visit for walking and wildflower viewing are the cooler, drier months; summer can be hot and bushfire closures occur.
