How to Get to Vršac#

Vršac sits in Serbia’s Vojvodina close to the Romanian border; the nearest international airports are Belgrade (BEG) and the closer but cross-border Timișoara (TSR). Regular buses and regional trains provide the main public transport links to Vršac.

By Air

Belgrade Nikola Tesla Airport (BEG): Belgrade is the main international hub for reaching Vršac by public transport. From BEG you can get to Vršac by taxi or transfer (about 1.5-2 hours driving) or travel by bus/train from Belgrade city centre - a typical taxi or private transfer from the airport to Vršac will be significantly more expensive than public bus/rail.

Timișoara Traian Vuia Airport (TSR) - Romania: Timișoara airport is actually closer to Vršac than Belgrade and can be a convenient cross-border option. From Timișoara to Vršac is roughly 45-70 minutes by car depending on border-crossing formalities; taxis or private transfers are the straightforward choice (expect a higher fare for an international transfer).

By Train & Bus

Train: Vršac has a railway station (Vršac station) served by regional Serbian Railways services; trains connect Vršac with Belgrade and other regional destinations - journey times are longer than by bus but fares are low.

Bus: Regular buses connect Vršac with Belgrade (Lasta and other operators) and with regional centres including Novi Sad and Timișoara (cross-border routes). Bus from Belgrade to Vršac takes roughly 2.5-3.5 hours depending on service and costs commonly around 700-1,200 RSD; cross-border buses from Timișoara to Vršac are shorter and often less costly in euros.

How to Get Around Vršac#

Buses and regional trains are the primary public transport choices for Vršac; for airport connections or flexible travel across the border to Romania, taxis or a rental car are often more practical.

  • Regional train (Vršac station) (~RSD 300-800) - Vršac has regional rail links to Belgrade and surrounding towns. Trains can be slower than buses but are inexpensive and useful for travel with limited luggage. Check Serbian Railways for current timetables and possible seasonal changes.
  • Intercity / cross-border bus (RSD 700-1,200 (Belgrade route); €3-10 (Timișoara route approx.)) - Buses connect Vršac with Belgrade, Novi Sad and Timișoara; they are usually the most convenient public option. Book or buy tickets at bus stations; cross-border schedules may be less frequent on weekends or holidays.
  • Taxi / private transfer (€30-90 (airport transfer, approximate)) - Taxis and private transfers from nearby airports (especially from Timișoara) offer the quickest door-to-door option. For cross-border transfers, ensure the driver is authorised and agree a price in advance to include any border paperwork or waiting time.
  • Car rental (€35-70/day) - Renting a car is practical for exploring Vojvodina and the surrounding wine country; parking in town is generally easy. Be aware of cross-border rental rules if returning the vehicle in another country.
