Vorab is a mountain massif and glacier in the Glarus Alps, located in the canton of Grisons (Graubünden) in eastern Switzerland. The massif straddles the cantonal boundary with Glarus and forms a notable glaciated area in the range.
The area is integrated into the Laax/Flims ski domain and is known for glacier skiing and summer glacier activities, with ski lifts and cable cars providing access from the resort. The glacier and surrounding slopes are used for alpine recreation and training throughout much of the year.
The mountain and glacier have long been shaped by alpine glaciation and traditional alpine land use; in the 20th century the area was developed for organized winter sports and lift access. Visible moraines and the glacier itself illustrate recent glacial dynamics.
Vorab sits above the resort of Laax in the canton of Graubünden within the Glarus Alps, offering panoramic views over the nearby valleys.

How to Get to Vorab #
From Flims or Laax, take the aerial tramways that serve the Flims-Laax-Falera ski area. The Vorab glacier is accessed from the Laax Murschetg lift cluster; roads from Chur or Ilanz lead to Flims (approx. 20-30 minutes by car). Train to Chur and a regional bus connects to Flims/Laax.
Tips for Visiting Vorab #
- If skiing or hiking, buy a day pass for the Flims-Laax cable systems at Laax Murschetg - it gives the easiest access to the Vorab glacier.
- Photograph the glacier in the early morning when the light catches the crevasses and the valley below is still in shadow.
- In summer, the marked trails toward Piz Grisch are better maintained; check local avalanche and glacier conditions before any glacier travel.
