Vlkolínec is a well-preserved traditional mountain village in the Žilina Region of northern Slovakia, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1993 for its vernacular wooden architecture.
The settlement developed over centuries as a rural, self-sufficient community using local timber construction methods; many of the surviving buildings date from the 18th and 19th centuries and have been maintained as part of heritage preservation efforts.
Vlkolínec sits in the foothills of the Western Carpathians in northern Slovakia, within the Žilina administrative region and relatively near the town of Ružomberok.

How to Get to Vlkolínec #
Vlkolínec is about 20-30 km from the regional center of Ružomberok. By car, follow local roads from Ružomberok; regional bus connections exist but schedules are limited. The village is compact and walkable; no large parking facilities are on site, so plan accordingly.
