Vizcaya Bridge

The Vizcaya Bridge (Puente de Vizcaya) is an iron transporter bridge spanning the Nervión estuary near Bilbao in the Basque Country of Spain, inaugurated in 1893 and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2006.

It was designed in the late 19th century by engineer Alberto de Palacio with contributions from other engineers and built to maintain river traffic while providing a regular cross-river link for local communities. The structure has been maintained and adapted for continued operation and public access since its construction.

The bridge crosses the Nervión River near the mouth of the Bilbao estuary, connecting Portugalete on the left bank and Getxo (Las Arenas) on the right bank in the province of Biscay, Basque Country.
