Vintgar Gorge, near Bled, runs along the Radovna River through a narrow canyon with wooden walkways, pools and the Šum waterfall. It’s a popular half-day walk for river views and accessible trail sections.
Vintgar Gorge is a steep, wooded limestone gorge northwest of Bled carved by the Radovna River, known for its wooden walkways and scenic waterfalls. The gorge offers a short, contained nature trail popular with day visitors from nearby Bled.
The main attraction is the boardwalk and footbridge system that follows the river through narrow sections, rapids and pools, finishing at a notable waterfall. The route is compact and suitable for most visitors, providing close access to canyon scenery without long climbs.
The gorge was developed for public access in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and has been maintained as a short, managed nature walk since then. Visitor facilities include a ticketed entrance and a clearly marked path.
Vintgar Gorge lies a few kilometres northwest of Bled in northwestern Slovenia, set within a forested karst landscape that drains toward the Sava river system.

How to Get to Vintgar Gorge #
Vintgar Gorge is about 3-4 km northwest of Bled town centre - roughly a 5-10 minute drive from central Bled. There is a small paid car park at the gorge; from the car park it’s a short walk (typically 5-15 minutes) to the entrance. If you prefer to walk from Bled, expect about 40-60 minutes along local roads and paths.
Tips for Visiting Vintgar Gorge #
- Visit right at opening in high season or late afternoon to avoid the long queues; the gorge is ticketed and can reach capacity on busy summer days, so consider buying timed tickets if available.
- Park at the official Vintgar car park/entrance near Bled and follow the marked approach path-there's limited roadside parking and the official entrance gets you onto the wooden walkways without extra walking.
- Walk all the way to the end of the gorge to see the 13 m Šum waterfall and the broader river views-many visitors turn back midway and miss the waterfall and exit viewpoints.
