Main image

Vintgar Gorge is a steep, wooded limestone gorge northwest of Bled carved by the Radovna River, known for its wooden walkways and scenic waterfalls. The gorge offers a short, contained nature trail popular with day visitors from nearby Bled.

The main attraction is the boardwalk and footbridge system that follows the river through narrow sections, rapids and pools, finishing at a notable waterfall. The route is compact and suitable for most visitors, providing close access to canyon scenery without long climbs.

The gorge was developed for public access in the late 19th and early 20th centuries and has been maintained as a short, managed nature walk since then. Visitor facilities include a ticketed entrance and a clearly marked path.

Vintgar Gorge lies a few kilometres northwest of Bled in northwestern Slovenia, set within a forested karst landscape that drains toward the Sava river system.

  • Walkway length and waterfall: The wooden walkways and galleries follow the canyon for roughly 1.6 kilometres and end at the **Šum** waterfall, which is about 13 metres high.
