Villa Poppaea is a large Roman seaside villa in the Oplontis archaeological area near modern Torre Annunziata, close to Pompeii. It is renowned for its scale and well preserved interior decoration from the first century AD.
The villa includes richly decorated reception rooms and residential suites with extensive wall paintings and luxury finishes. The complex layout and decoration indicate a high-status residence from the early Roman imperial period.
The villa was buried and preserved by the AD 79 eruption of Mount Vesuvius and was subsequently excavated in modern times as part of the broader archaeological work around Pompeii and Herculaneum.
