Villa La Rotonda (Villa Almerico Capra) is a Renaissance villa designed by Andrea Palladio in the Veneto region of Italy. The building is famous for its strict symmetry - a square plan with a central domed hall and identical porticos on all four sides.
Architectural highlights include the hemispherical central hall and the four classical porticos, each oriented to a cardinal direction, which together create a balanced, geometric composition. The villa’s design had wide influence on neoclassical architecture in Europe and the Americas.
Commissioned in the 16th century, the villa was conceived by Palladio as a domestic palace that combined classical temple fronts with a centralized interior plan. Construction and decorative work continued after Palladio’s lifetime under the patronage of the Capra family.
The villa sits just outside the city of Vicenza in the Veneto region, in a semi-rural setting of gentle hills typical of the area around Vicenza.
- Palladian design: Designed by Andrea Palladio in the 16th century and notable for its perfectly symmetrical, central-plan design that influenced classical villa architecture across Europe and beyond.

What to See #
- Central domed hall: A central circular salone beneath a hemispherical dome that organizes the villa's interior and forms its primary ceremonial space.
- Four porticos: Four identical projecting porticos on each side of the square plan, each with classical columns and pediments that give the villa its symmetrical appearance.
