How to Get to Villa de Leiva
Villa de Leyva is most commonly reached overland from Bogotá (El Dorado Airport) by bus or private car. The bus from Bogotá's main terminal is the straightforward, inexpensive option; renting a car is handy if you want to explore sites around the rural Boyacá countryside.
El Dorado International Airport (BOG): Fly into Bogotá’s El Dorado and transfer to the city’s Terminal de Transporte (Terminal Salitre). A taxi from the airport to the terminal is roughly COP 20,000-30,000 (15-30 minutes). From Terminal Salitre there are direct intercity buses to Villa de Leyva; journey time is about 3.5-4.5 hours and fares are typically COP 30,000-45,000.
Palonegro / Bucaramanga (BGA) or other regional airports: These are farther and less convenient than Bogotá for most international arrivals. If you arrive in Bucaramanga (Palonegro) or other regional airports you will need to connect by bus or road to Tunja and then a short bus/taxi on to Villa de Leyva; expect several hours of road travel.
Train: Colombia does not have an intercity passenger rail connection for this route; travel to Villa de Leyva is done by road.
Bus: Buses to Villa de Leyva depart Bogotá’s Terminal de Transporte (Salitre) with several daily services; travel time is about 3.5-4.5 hours and fares are normally COP 30,000-45,000. From nearby Tunja there are frequent local minibuses/colectivos to Villa de Leyva (approx. 45-60 minutes, COP 3,000-10,000).
