The Vihorlat Mountains are a volcanic mountain range in eastern Slovakia and form part of the Inner Eastern Carpathians. The range is noted for its beech and mixed forests, volcanic landforms and small mountain lakes.

The area is popular for hiking and nature tourism, with marked trails that lead to summits and viewpoints and to the small volcanic lake Morské oko, a well-known natural attraction. The landscape is forested and supports a range of Central European mountain flora and fauna.

The mountains originated from volcanic activity that left crater lakes and basalt formations, and their forests have long been managed and protected; parts of the range are included in official protected landscape areas to conserve biodiversity and natural habitats.

  • Elevation and protection: The highest point in the range reaches just over 1,070 metres, and the area is covered largely by protected forests within a designated landscape area.
