How to Get to Vianden#
Vianden is best reached via Luxembourg City and Ettelbruck: fly to Luxembourg Airport (LUX) then use the free national rail network to Ettelbruck and a short bus or taxi onward to Vianden. The town is a short onward journey from the main northbound rail corridor.
Luxembourg Airport (LUX): Fly into LUX and take bus line 16 into Luxembourg Gare Centrale (20-25 minutes). From Luxembourg City continue by train or regional bus toward the north (Ettelbruck/Clervaux) and change for a short bus link to Vianden if required. Public transport within Luxembourg is free.
Other airports: Trier or airports in nearby German/Belgian cities are alternatives but usually need an additional transfer through Luxembourg City.
Train: The closest major rail hub is Ettelbruck (Ettelbruck gare), which has good CFL connections from Luxembourg Gare Centrale. Trains from Luxembourg to Ettelbruck take about 25-35 minutes.
Bus: From Ettelbruck there are regular buses to Vianden (the regional bus link takes roughly 15-25 minutes). Many visitors reach Vianden via Ettelbruck; all national trains and buses are free to use.

Vianden is most convenient reached via Luxembourg City → Ettelbruck (train) then a short bus or taxi. Within Vianden, walking and cycling are the best ways to enjoy the compact historic centre.
- Train (to Ettelbruck) (Free) - Take CFL trains from Luxembourg Gare Centrale to Ettelbruck - the ride is typically 25-35 minutes. Ettelbruck functions as the regional rail hub for access to Vianden and the Ardennes north.
- Regional bus (Ettelbruck→Vianden) (Free) - From Ettelbruck catch the regional bus to Vianden (the bus ride is short, around 15-25 minutes). Buses are timed to connect with trains; all public transport in Luxembourg is free of charge.
- Taxi (€10-€25) - A short taxi from Ettelbruck to Vianden can save time if connections are poor or you have heavy luggage - expect to pay more than the free bus but useful outside timetabled services.
- Car rental (€40-€80/day) - Car hire makes it easy to explore Vianden and nearby scenic roads; parking near the castle and town centre is available but can be busy in peak season.
