Verila is a low mountain massif in western Bulgaria, located within Sofia Province between the larger ranges of Vitosha to the north and Rila to the south. It forms a distinct, lower ridge within the western Bulgarian landscape.
The massif offers modest hiking and local outdoor recreation rather than high-alpine terrain; trails and forestry roads cross its slopes and connect small settlements in the area. Elevations are notably lower than the neighboring major ranges, making Verila accessible for day walks.
Geologically and geographically the range links the surrounding higher mountains and forms part of the transitional terrain southwest of Sofia. The massif lies within Sofia Province and is reached from nearby towns and villages to the north and south of the ridge.
Verila sits in western Bulgaria roughly southwest of the capital, Sofia, and is part of the complex of small ranges and ridges that separate the Rila massif from the Sofia plain.
