Veevers crater
Crater Circular meteorite crater in Western Australia
A meteorite crater in Western Australia’s arid interior, Veevers Crater draws geologists and adventurous 4WD travellers interested in its circular depression and desert setting.
Veevers crater is a meteorite impact crater in central Western Australia, notable for its well-preserved rim and small size. It is one of the country’s recognisable simple impact structures.
The feature is a circular depression about 70 metres in diameter with a raised rim and relatively fresh morphology compared with larger, older craters. Visits are generally field trips by geologists and experienced four-wheel-drive parties due to its remote desert setting.
The crater was reported to the geological community in the 20th century and named for the geologist associated with its study. Cosmogenic and stratigraphic evidence indicate a geologically young age relative to many other impact structures, though precise dating ranges are estimates.
