Varna Archaeological Museum

Varna Archaeological Museum is the principal archaeological museum in the city of Varna on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast, best known for housing finds from the nearby Varna Necropolis. Its collections span prehistory through the medieval period and highlight the region’s long sequence of human occupation.

The museum’s most internationally significant material is the Chalcolithic gold from the Varna Necropolis, a unique assemblage of thousands of gold items dated to roughly 4500-4200 BCE. Other galleries display Thracian, Greek and Roman artifacts excavated around Varna, plus archaeological finds from the medieval and Ottoman periods.
