Valentin submarine pens

The Valentin submarine pens are a large World War II U-boat pen and construction bunker on the River Weser near Bremen in northern Germany. It was built by Nazi Germany as part of the U-boat program and survives today as a memorial and industrial ruin.

The site is dominated by the massive reinforced-concrete bunker shell that visitors can view from outside and enter on organized visits. Exhibitions in the visitor area interpret the construction, wartime use, and the forced labor employed during building. The structure is notable for its scale and preservation as an example of wartime industrial architecture.

Construction began under the Nazi regime during World War II to support U-boat production and repair; large numbers of forced laborers were used on the project. The bunker was never used to full intended capacity and was left largely unfinished at the end of the war; postwar years saw the site preserved as a historical and memorial location.
