Tuart Forest National Park
Park Coastal national park conserving native tuart eucalyptus
Coastal national park west of Perth protecting tall tuart eucalyptus; visitors walk shaded trails, cycle quiet roads and study the distinctive tree stands.
Tuart Forest National Park protects one of the last remnants of native tuart (Eucalyptus gomphocephala) forest in south-west Western Australia. The park conserves tall coastal eucalypt woodland on the Swan coastal plain.
Visitors can walk short trails through stands of tuart trees, use picnic areas and see native wildflowers and birdlife typical of the region. The park is a short, accessible natural area rather than a large remote wilderness reserve.
Remnants of the tuart ecosystem were progressively set aside for conservation as much of the original forest was cleared for agriculture and development. The protected area preserves representative stands and associated flora and fauna.
The park lies on the coastal plain in south-west Western Australia near the Ludlow area, between the larger towns of Bunbury and Busselton. The surrounding landscape is a mix of coastal plain, farmland and limited urban development.
